Medical researchers compared the brains of people addicted to online games and drug addicts say the same parts of the brain are affected in both cases, a discovery that will come as little surprise to anyone familiar with the MMORPG.

The Korean research team used PET to examine brain activity and found that the "game addicts" have a high activity in areas such as the orbitofrontal cortex and caudate nucleus compared to non-gamers.
