HISTORY
DX-Ball is a freeware computer game for PC first launched in 1996 by Michael P. Welch. The game, an updated version of a first series of games known as Megaball Amiga, follows the classic ball and paddle arcade games like Breakout and Arkanoid. It became a massive cult classic in the gaming community freeware Windows during the 1990's. A level editor is also made available.
Gameplay
The game is basically a clone of Breakout: to bounce a ball off a paddle at the bottom hitting different colored blocks at the top of the screen. Hitting all the results of the blocks to complete the level and proceed to the next. There are 50 levels to complete. Unlike Breakout, however, is the inclusion of other enhancers extra balls. When you reach a brick, there is a possibility that a PowerUp float down toward the blade, and can be picked up by touching it with the shovel. Powerups, have positive effects, others negative, so it is important to try to collect powerups while avoiding increases beneficial to detrimental. There are over 12 powerups, four of them either good or bad. For example, if you were to get the power fastball-up. the ball just gain speed. The ball also gradually increases its speed as the game continues. Some good power-ups include the Zap Brick revealing hidden bricks and bricks made fragile unbreakable grip blade that is able to catch the ball and the target in any brick you want to achieve, and extra life, whose powers give him an extra life at the expense of most of their power-ups, and Level Warp, which allows you to advance to the next level.
