distro Ubuntu Linux distribution based on Ubuntu

distro Ubuntu Linux distribution based on Ubuntu

Qimo for Kids

Qimo is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that is designed for children 3 and older. Like any other distributions, comes with software pre-installed in this case are educational games.
Its interface is designed to be easy to use, characterized by large icons in every game installed (usually, I think the main menu could have followed the approach of the desktop icons).

It is ideal to have on a CD and when the nephews come to visit, run it from this, in case you want to install the requirements are 256MB of RAM and 6GB of disk space.

Qimo has an attractive interface for children, colors, pictures and icons designed in the tastes of young audiences, who also have access to programs and games within the same OS.

Now in its version 2.0, Qimo can be set according to age, tastes and needs of each child, with the possibility that many children have their own accounts within the same computer. It is also available in Spanish.

Some features of Qimo are:

. Designed for children ages 3 and up.
. Intuitive design and easy to use.
. Adaptation of wallpapers.
. Customizing icons.
. Pre-installed games.
. Assistants to customize the system.

All because of Ubuntu

All because of Ubuntu

Ubuntu Free Software GNU / Linux Jaunty Jackalope;). 4.9

Warning: The following text is intended to be humorous, any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.

PS I currently use Jaunty Jackalope 4.9 installed from 0 and I have nothing to complain about, I found this reading and gave me a good laugh, Sauder.

It all started with a brand new 486DX2, this was the computer with which I started, I remember that came with the MS-DOS 5.0 operating system, and the first thing my dad did was to install the Windows 3.1, and a lot of programs never used.

For some reason, the MS-DOS called me more attention than Windows, perhaps because at that time when he was a computer on television, the user kept pounding the keyboard for a moment. Over the years go by so many things with this computer and its predecessors: crash, disk fragmentation, virus protection, data recovery in corrupted files, and no matter what I do every six months I had to reformat the disk drive and reinstall everything because Windows will put the damn heavy to the point of becoming unbearable, all this eventually led me into some kind of expert, call me to advanced user.

A year ago, given my vast knowledge, I decided to make the leap, it's time to evolve I said, I'll install GNU / Linux. But this time I prepare well, I started researching and decided on Ubuntu, spoke well of it in the network, and especially of his community, it made me think it would much help to meet the challenge of running a GNU / Linux .

Download the image of Gutsy, this was the system that welcomed me to the world of GNU / Linux, my first surprise when you boot from the CD was to see a menu that gave me the option to try Ubuntu without changing the equipment, start with this, everything seemed to work, everything except my wireless network card, it looks good I thought it was normal, this card will not work until you install the drivers, and of course had no graphics acceleration, time of game I thought, and started the installation.

The installation process was very easy, the more complex was the partitions, but a piece of cake for an advanced user like me, not because it was starting to give me a bad feeling, but I consoled myself thinking that I still had to configure the graphics card and network card, reboot and it started for the first time my computer with Ubuntu natively, which is what my surprise when I log in?, the system gives me a warning that has the driver for my graphics card and activate it, I agree and now this, I have graphics acceleration and stationery, disappointed me, can not be thought. Well there is still the network card, did a search on Google and in half an hour gave the exact solution to my problem, and my Ubuntu was fully installed and configured in less time than it takes me to format the hard disk to start Windows installation.

Ubuntu's fault, my learning process was hampered by an operating system that works perfectly, and I have nothing to talk to my friends windowseros, while they spend hours drinking coffee and telling how to remove it or how good X is defragmentation tool fashion, I work and work because the system never crashes, never gets heavy, the disk fragments never, not even I have to reset when you upgrade and updates will not last for hours.

Sincerely, an ex-user.
