China bans violent online games that deal with gangs
China has banned websites and online games violent, antisocial and promote a culture of gangs and organized crime, according to Xinhua news agency
This type of game "focus on guys who hit, kill, rape, loot, cheat and promotes violence and bloodshed," said the Ministry of Culture said in a statement. "They undermine the moral and traditional Chinese culture and have a bad influence on young people," he said.
"The Ministry has ordered its agencies to intensify supervision and crack down on sites that continue this kind of games," official sources said without elaborating.
China has about 200 million online gamers, and more than 300 million Internet users, the most in the world. And the movies, arguments and stories about bands are very popular in China.
Oak Pacific Interactive, which operates two of the most popular, has left some games like "The Godfather", where players can be gangster and act like them.
The campaign appears to be part of a general tightening in the media in October at the approach of the 60th anniversary of the founding of communist China.
In recent months, the Chinese antipornográfico filter, or closure of sites with "vulgar content" recent activities have shaped Chinese government censorship of communication
