The FBI alert 'Barbie pedophile'

(CNNMéxico) - U.S. officials warned of the potential use for child pornography is a new Barbie doll.

According to a warning issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to U.S. law enforcement agencies, the Barbie Girl Video could function as a tool for pedophiles, it has a small camera capable of recording video.

The FBI statement did not report examples of misuses of the wrist that has been in the U.S. market since July.

An investigation recalls the case of a man convicted of distributing child pornography delivered a Barbie to a 6 year old girl, while a second study found examples of child pornography recorded with hidden cameras.

"The possibility of integrating these two into a single device the researchers concerned," says the statement, issued on 30 November.

The doll captures up to 30 seconds of video, which can be downloaded to a computer and displayed on an LCD screen that is on the back.

Mattel said that "the FBI is not reporting anything that has happened" and that the company's highest priority is the safety of children.

According to Steve Dupre, the FBI office in Sacramento, California, "there have been reports that the toy is used as something more than try to be."
