Argentine government launches "popular collection" to build monument Perón

The Argentine government today launched a "popular collection" to raise about $ 750,000 to build a monument to the three-time president Juan Domingo Perón (1895-1974), which will be set in front of government headquarters.

The Ministry of Culture opened a bank account to receive private donations to make the bronze monument, they said spokesmen of the Peronist government Cristina Fernandez.

"I did not finish the year without fulfilling a commitment to Juan Domingo Peron, a man whose light and life is still with us. The people who do not recognize their history tend to get lost on the road," said the Argentine Secretary of Culture, Jorge Coscia , to launch the collection.

The initiative is part of a regulated law seven years ago, when computing the cost of the memorial at around 3,000,000 pesos (750,000 dollars), sources said.

"The time to erect a monument to the founder of our movement. The long overdue tribute, there was a cloak of resistance, but now will fulfill a duty to history" because "Buenos Aires was still a monument to Juan Domingo Perón ", stressed the historical Peronist leader Antonio Cafiero.

Peron, who led Argentina from 1946 to 1955, was overthrown in a coup that forced him to a long exile until 1973, when he took back the presidency in a new mandate was truncated by his death in July 1974.
