To mark the 50th anniversary of Barbie, Mattel decided to open this year's first Barbie emporium in Shanghai. Entirely designed by Slade Architecture, this store has six floors that have the largest and most complete collection of Barbie dolls and products


Distributed over six floors in the nearly 3000 square meters of building, in which we find from a spa to a cafe restaurant, all wrapped in a facade designed to create a separate identity from the store.


For the design of the facade was counted with the collaboration of BIG, who created the graphics end. References combines decorative arts, packaging products, fashion and iconography.


It is made of two layers, an inner translucent polycarbonate panels and inner glass panels with a pattern printed fabric chip. Two layers that interact dynamically with the shadow and distortion.


Inside, the main element that functions as the core of the entire store is a spiral staircase which contains caya 800 Barbie dolls. The staircase connects three floors: the ground a woman, the plant and the plant wrists of girls.




The female plant includes fashion, cosmetics and accessories. A plant for which they still feel a little girls love the Barbie icon.


The plant of dolls, which in addition to the dolls, a Barbie designer gallery and books, including a space called the Design Center, where girls can design their own Barbie computer!



The girls plant, in addition to fashion, shoes and accessories, has a space for Barbie fashion in which girls have the opportunity to participate in a real catwalk.


The top floor is the Barbie Cafe, a restaurant and ice cream. This is perhaps my favorite space around the building. Although no longer displayed the typical Barbie pink, the restaurant has a more sophisticated and adult, mixing with blacks and chairs completely original design.


An emporium with a stylish and fun, which contains over 1600 official products Barbie and invites a reflection point where the Barbie of the present, past and future.
